Tea Filled Bamboo | cha tong (tea tube)

History

Bamboo has long been a traditional means of storing tea and has an almost symbiotic relationship with tea culture. Tribes native to the birthplace of tea and bamboo, in Central Southeast Asia, are masters of both tea and bamboo craft and have a history of using bamboo to store tea dating back over 2,000 years.

Attributes

Bamboo is a sustainable grass whose long cylindrical form is nature's perfect storage container. Its odor is neutral so it does not affect a tea's innate aroma. Bamboo also provides for an eco-friendly alternative to carbon-dependent packaging like metal tins and plastic over wraps. Our Bamboo Tea Tubes are cut after each node so they require no glues and are left with a natural finish. The outer label and inner wrapping we use are made from an incredible blend of FSC certified wood cellulose and are certified 100% Home Compostable and fully Biodegradable. The tube itself is highly reusable and also Biodegradable.

Notes

In traditional Asian medicine dried herbs including the tea leaf are stored and prepared in non-metal vessels. Herbs are said to react negatively, losing vitality if they come in contact with metals. If a metal container is used line the inside of it with paper. Ceramic, stone, lightproof glass or neutral odor woods without glue or coating are best for tea storage.
