Design:

This teapot design draws inspiration from the famous Scottish industrial designer Dr. Christopher Dresser (1834-1904). Dresser was a pioneer of modern design, his works are reminiscent of the Danish and Bauhaus movements of the 1920's even though they were made some 40 years earlier in the Victorian era. Dresser was part of the Aesthetic Movement and it's Anglo-Japanese branch which was highly influenced by traditional Japanese design. This is apparent in this Sphere teapot with its' use of a side-handle, called yokode in Japan where it is typically used for tea making. The side handle teapot originated from an ancient Chinese clay kettle/pot known as a chá-píng (tea vessel) used for making herbal medicine or tea.
